Lung cancer is a major cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. Most lung cancers begin as small nodules. The lung scan from Allied Diagnostics aims to detect these these small nodules which can then be further evaluated in a quick, comfortable and non-invasive manner.
Why have a lung scan?
The majority of people with lung cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage of the disease when the prognosis is poor as symptoms do not occur until it is too late. If detected at an early stage lung cancer can potentially be cured.
Who should have a Lung Scan?
It is advisable for men and women over 45 to have a lung scan if you have one or more of the following risk factors or symptoms:
- Family history of lung cancer
- Smoking or living with a heavy smoker
- Previous asbestos exposure
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent cough
- Coughing blood
Please note: If you are a smoker, it is advisable to have a combined lung and heart scan.
